Stacy’s Closet ribbon cutting: This week Economic Development staff attended the ribbon cutting for Stacy’s Closet - a new boutique and consignment store located on 9105 Bridgeport Way. The store features clothing for men and women, decorating items and accessories. The store has been open just a few weeks and is looking to grow the inventory with gently used clothing and accessories.

Farmers Market Grand Opening June 4th: June 4th will mark the grand opening of the second season of the Lakewood Farmers Market presented by St. Clare Hospital.  Patrons will be able to enjoy live music from The Intrusions, a local Jazz ensemble and can get a FREE reusable market tote with a purchase from any vendor, while supplies last.  The Lakewood Farmers Market is a great place to take the family.  Fresh produce, delicious treats and beautiful crafts provide a little something for everyone.  This season, the City of Lakewood has added themed days, live entertainment, demos and lots of fun for the whole family.  Entertainment is sponsored by WSECU.  For a detailed schedule and list of activities, visit lakewoodparksandrec.com.

Multi-agency “Active Shooter” Training conducted at Clover Park Technical College: On Friday May 17th, Lakewood Police Department, along with West Pierce Fire and Rescue, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, South Sound 911, Clover Park Technical College Staff and Administration, and the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management participated in an “Active Shooter” training on the Clover Park Technical College Campus.  This multi-level, multi-agency training was devised in response to the recent shootings which have been front and center in the media in recent months.  The training was very well received, well-planned, and well-executed, and provided a fabulous opportunity to prepare each agency individually-and as part of a team- should this situation ever arise.  Feedback received from citizens/staff members was all very positive and grateful for the chance to participate and each agency went home with valuable knowledge regarding what worked and what needed to be adjusted for next time.
