Joint Base Lewis-McChord Will Open New Fire Station Tuesday

The facility measures 4,800 square feet in size, and its location will allow firefighters to respond to emergencies in on-base housing areas on McChord Field quicker.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord will celebrate the opening of its new fire station Tuesday, a move that's expected to help keep McChord Field and its surrounding areas safer.

On Tuesday, the Army will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the station, for which construction began more than a year ago.

The facility measures 4,800 square feet in size, and its location will allow firefighters to respond to emergencies in on-base housing areas on McChord Field quicker.

The station will employ 11 firefighters and one paramedic. Firefighters assigned to this new fire station will also be responsible for other areas on McChord Field, such as the Commissary and Exchange facilities.
