Lakewood 101 Meeting Gives Perspective On How City Operates

City Manager Andrew Neiditz and others delve into their roles as local government leaders, current and upcoming challenges they are faced with.

It was a chance to see how the city's wheels turn and where it's headed for the next decade.

Despite the low turnout — there was about 20 residents in the audience — the Lakewood 101 meeting at City Hall on Thursday was well organized and the information provided a context of the roles each individual city departments plays. It's good to know how your money is spent, who does what and why.

I already knew quite about about the city and Web sites like Wikipedia.org already provide general information like, so I wasn't sure how much was going to be new.

One of the pieces of the presentation that stood out were the different ways to get involved with the various committees that make recommendations. If you like parks there's a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. If you like history there's a Landmarks & Heritage Advisory Board. There are also opportunities to volunteer for the Lakewood Police Department.
