Mike Carrell Reportedly Leaves $250,000 For Improvements at Ft. Steilacoom

Part of the money will be used to paint the houses at Western State Hospital used as a museum. What should the rest pay for?

It appears Mike Carrell left the most surprising of surprises for the history buffs at Fort Steilacoom.

The News Tribune is reporting that the longtime state senator from Lakewood - who died in May - left some $250,000 in cash in the state budget to help with improvements at the houses that the Historic Fort Steilacoom Association operate as a museum at Western State Hospital.

The move is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise for the association.

“There was no hint that (Carrell was) working on this,” association Secretary Joe Lewis told the newspaper.

It appears the association will have money left over after the houses are painted.
