ON THE AGENDA: City Council To Hear School District Report, Discuss Emergency Management Coordinator

Lakewood won federal grant funds to hire an emergency management coordinator with West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

On the Lakewood City Council's agenda tonight is a report from and a request from Police Chief Bret Farrar to accept a $96,000 grant from the Washington State Military Department.

In terms of the grant, the money, which the city would match out of its general fund, would cover an emergency management coordinator with West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

"The city currently has a contract with Department of Emergency Management that is not specific enough to our local needs," Farrar wrote. "Grant funds shared between fire and the city will provide alternative and immediately responsive emergency management facilitation."
