Pierce Transit Conducting Its Third Round Of Service Cuts
The agency says it will have 20 percent less staff and 30 percent less management by the end of the year.
Pierce Transit just posted the following on its website:
"Board approves layoffs to take place with final October Service Reduction
As part of implementing the 35 percent reduction in service, Pierce Transit is conducting its third round of layoffs. By the end of the year the agency will have approximately 20 percent less staff, including 30 percent less management. These reductions were necessitated by the economic recession and, despite several rounds of budget cuts, this layoff was necessary to close the budget gap of $51 million. Pierce Transit will have achieved financial stability as a result.

Lynne Griffith, the agency's CEO stated,"'We are very sad to lose so many wonderful employees to this economic recession. They will be missed and we wish them the very best.'"
