REPORT: McKenna, Inslee to Spar In 2 More Gubernatorial Debates

Pair will meet Aug. 29 in Vancouver and Oct. 2 in Yakima. Other debates may come later, but the campaigns have not worked out specifics.

The Seattle Times is reporting that Rob McKenna and Jay Inslee have agreed to two more debates in the state's hotly contested gubernatorial race.

They duo will meet on Aug. 29 in Vancouver, Clark County, in a debate hosted by local civic, business and government groups, and then on Oct. 2 in Yakima at an event sponsored by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and KCTS-TV.

It will be the second and third debates between the two candidates despite McKenna having proposed 15 total across the state. The first was in June in Spokane at the Association of Washington Business debate. Inslee, a Democrat, and McKenna, a Republican, have met at a few other events, but they were not actual debates.

From The Times' story:

Inslee's campaign says he has placed five more debates on his schedule. In addition to the Vancouver and Yakima events, Inslee says he plans on a Sept. 27 debate in Tacoma, an Oct. 6 debate organized by the Seattle Center Foundation and KCPQ-TV, and an Oct. 11 debate sponsored by KING-5 and The Seattle Times.
Although McKenna had earlier included those on his list of debates, as of Thursday he was not committing to them.
So far, Inslee has not committed to televised debates offered by KOMO-TV or KIRO-TV.
