Robert Bales' Wife Releases Statement

"I too want to know what happened," says Karilyn Bales, wife of the accused shooter from Joint Base Lewis-McChord. His lawyer say his client has little memory of the shootings he is alleged to have conducted at night in Afghanistan.

For the first time, the public heard from the wife of alleged Joint Base Lewis-McChord stff sergeant who allegedly went on a nighttime killing spree that left 16 Afghanistan civilians dead.

She too is shocked and wants answers. Christian Hill of The News Tribune posted the statement from Mrs. Bales, which was released through Seattle attorney Lance Rosen, this afternoon:

"My family, including my and Bob's extended family, are all profoundly sad. We extend our condolences to all the people of the Panjawai District, our hearts go out to all of them, especially to the parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents of the children who perished."

Bales then went on to say that she and her family, like most of the world, has little information beyond what is reported in the media.

"I too want to know what happened. I want to know how this could be."

This comes on the heels of the Associated Press reporting via KING TV that Robert Bales' attorney claims his client has some recollection of what happened before and after the killigs, "but very little during the time the military believes" he conducted the shootings.

"He has some memory of some things that happened that night. He has some memories of before the incident and he has some memories of after the incident. In between, very little," Browne told The Associated Press by telephone from , where Bales is being held.
