WHAT SHOULD GO HERE: Former Gottschalks Building at Lakewood Towne Center

The building's demolition is sparking plenty of speculation about what will take its place.

We know the former Gottschalks building at Lakewood Towne Center is coming down.

Now the only question is what will take its place.

Last month, the shopping center's developer - RPAI - shared what it conceptualized for the longtime vacant space in Lakewood's retail center.

It didn't say specifically what it wanted in the space, but they made clear that it would most likely require demolishing the building and re-developing it. The city reaffirmed that in its latest note to the community.

Interim City Manager Heidi Wachter said the developers plan to announce new tenants. By then, the public will likely be awared of how the space is developed.
