Clover Park Schools Honored With Washington Achievement Awards

Several Clover Park School District (CPSD) schools have won Washington Achievement Awards, the state’s highest honor.

The Washington Achievement Awards are based on test scores, graduation rates and closing achievement gaps.

• Three CPSD schools were recognized for Overall Excellence: Clarkmoor and Southgate Elementary Schools and Hudtloff Middle School.
• Southgate was also recognized for achievements in math and science.
• Southgate, Tillicum Elementary and Harrison Preparatory School were credited with closing achievement gaps.
• Oakwood Elementary and Southgate also made the High Progress category for Title I schools. This category recognizes the top 10 percent of Title I schools in reading and math on stateassessments.

Title I is a program created by the U.S. Department of Education to distribute funding to schools and school districts with a high percentage of students from low-income families.

“Our teachers continue to work extremely hard to ensure academic success among our students and theWashington Achievement Awards recognize those efforts,” said superintendent Debbie LeBeau.

Awardees were selected based on the 2012 Achievement Index and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver. This is the fourth year of the awards which are sponsored by theOffice of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education.
