DOD Grants $91 Million To Rebuild Greenwood, Clarkmoor & Beachwood

The Clover Park School District will manage construction of the three elementary schools on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The Department of Defense announced three grants from the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) totaling nearly $91 million have been approved for Clover Park School District (CPSD) to rebuild Greenwood ($28.6 million), Clarkmoor ($30.9 million) and Beachwood ($31.3 million) Elementary Schools on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).

CPSD will manage the construction of the three new schools. Funding from the OEA grants will be supplemented with funding from state school construction assistance program. Together, the new Greenwood, Clarkmoor and Beachwood Elementary Schools will serve 1,550 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth.

Funding for these grants is provided under the department’s Public Schools on Military Installations Program. OEA, in making these funds available, must give priority consideration to those military installations with schools having the most serious capacity or facility condition deficiencies, as determined by the priority list. A multi-disciplined federal evaluation team, with membership from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, the military services, U.S. Department of Education and OEA reviewed the school projects to ensure the awards appropriately address the noted capacity and facility condition deficiencies.

“The replacement of Greenwood, Clarkmoor and Beachwood Elementary Schools on JBLM will allow our students to continue to receive a quality education in state-of-the-art buildings that provide for today’s educational needs,” said Debbie LeBeau, CPSD superintendent. “Throughout this process, CPSD has received tremendous support from our elected officials as well as the Department of Defense.  The military students and families at these schools will benefit from this support.”
