Oakbrook's Jada Yeater Advances To Finals Of National Free-Throw Competition

The third-grader won the regional Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw competition March 2 in Portland. She'll now go to the national competition April 18-21 in Springfield, MA.

Jada Yeater, a third-grader at won the regional Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw competition March 2 in Portland. She competed against students from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska and completed 20 of 25 free throws.

Jada advanced from the school, district and state levels to reach the regionals. She will compete in the Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals in Springfield, MA, April 18-21.

“All of the kids at regionals knew what they were doing and deserved to be there,” said Max Yeater, Jada’s father and personal coach. “I expect it to be just as challenging if not more so at nationals.”

“As good a free throw shooter as she is, Jada is an even better person with great caring and compassion for others, including her competitors,” said her PE teacher Ted Henderson. “Any coach would love to have her on their team.”

Jada and her parents will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the national competition courtesy of the Elks. The Elks National Hoop Shoot free-throw program is free to all participants ages 8-13 and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed.
