Oakwood, Southgate Elementary Named Reward Schools By State
They were two of 75 Title 1 schools from across the state that were recognized for meeting benchmarks on standardized test scores or are showing significant improvement. The Clover Park schools received a "high progress" designation.
Clover Park School District's Oakwood and Southgate Elementary Schools are two of 75 Washington schools named 2013-2014 Reward Schools by State Superintendent Randy Dorn.
The Reward School designation identifies schools that receive federal Title 1 funds and are meeting benchmarks on standardized test scores or showing significant improvement.
Oakwood and Southgate both received a "high progress" designation, meaning they have performed in the Top 10 percent of all Title 1 schools for reading and math for the past three years.
Schools were identified using three-year averages (2009-10 through 2011-12) of reading and math scores from the statewide tests and/or graduation rates. A total of 75 schools were identified as reward, 65 schools as priority, 107 as focus and 156 as emerging.
“The purpose of the identification is to acknowledge the improvement efforts in our reward schools and continue to collaborate, support and improve our lower performing schools,” Dorn said. “We have an obligation to ensure that each of our 1.1 million students in Washington has an opportunity to attend an excellent school.”
