PICTURE: Southgate Elementary Raises More Than $3,700 For Pennies For Patients.

The student-led penny drive benefited the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Southgate Elementary held its first-ever fundraiser and collected more than $3,700 for Pennies for Patients. Pennies for Patients funds benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The student council, made up of third- through fifth-grade students, visited each classroom to help promote the penny drive. Each class received a pennant from Pennies for Patients. Heather Neff's fourth-grade class collected the most money for the school totaling $430.61.

"We are very appreciative of everything the community has done for the students at Southgate," said counselor Jeanette Mikita. "It's wonderful to see the families give back in such a big way."
