SATURDAY: MLK Celebration at Clover Park Technical College

The celebration takes place 10 a.m. to noon, at the Sharon McGavick Conference Center.

Lakewood's 10th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will be held on 10 a.m. to noon., Saturday, Jan. 19Β  at the Sharon McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College.

The public is invited to attend the celebration. Admission and parking are free.

The theme for this year's celebration is "WWII, Discrimination at Home,
Patriotism Abroad". The event features a wonderful variety of talented performers to include:

The Total Experience Gospel Choir, The Prairie Bells, trumpeter Morris Northcutt and the Clover Park High School Choir.
Other featured performers include the Life Christian Chamber Choir, the Grace Chapel Choir and many more outstanding performers.
There will also be a reading by the winner of the Clover Park School District Martin Luther King essay contest.

Welcome remarks will be by the newly elected Mayor of Lakewood. Featured speakers include Sam Mitsui, a World War II member of the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Al Knight, COL., USA (Ret) representing the famed Tuskegee Airmen. Joining COL Knight will be former Tuskegee Airman Ed Drummond.

Additional guests include representatives from the World War II Philippine Scouts.
