Wounded JBLM Soldiers Share Photos of St. Andrews Golf Trip

A trio of local veterans traveled to Scotland to play different courses with other wounded soldiers and watch The Open Championship at Murfield.

Last July, a trio of soldiers from Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord embarked on a journey to Scotland to play different courses with other wounded veterans and watch The Open Championship at Murfield.

Army Staff Sgt. AJ Domme and Staff Sgt. Michael Slaybaugh of the Madigan Army Medical Center-based Warrior Transition Battalion, as well as Sgt. Steve Reynolds, a Vietnam veteran and leader of the volunteer grounds crew at American Lake had their expenses paid for by a group in Europe.

The trio joined a group of disabled British soldiers. Organizers hope this year’s trip will be the start of an ongoing program – dubbed the North American Wounded Veterans Scottish Links Trophy - around education, rehabilitation and development for wounded warriors.

The plan calls for a reciprocal trip in 2014, with the British soldiers playing at American Lake.
