Jack Nicklaus Helps Break Ground On Future Back Nine At American Lake Veterans Course

There was a Golden Bear sighting Friday in Lakewood, and that is great news for disabled veterans who love to golf.

Jack Nicklaus, one of golf's legends, stopped by American Lake Veterans Golf Course to officially break ground on the future back nine that will be designed with injured veterans in mind.

Nicklaus' design firm is donating its services for the project, which Nicklaus, former pro and Ryder Cup teammate Ken Still of Fircrest and others have been collaborating on for some five years.

Work at the course is expected to increase in the spring, and veteran golfers could be playing on the new holes within a couple of years, depending on if volunteers can raise enough money.
