Jack Nicklaus Tells Patch What He Expects From Future Holes At American Lake

One of golf's legends is helping design a future back nine at the Lakewood golf course that will be designed with injured and recovering soldiers in mind.

Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bear, perhaps the greatest player golf has ever seen, says he's humbled by his role in his latest project.

Nicklaus, golf's winningest player, never served in the Armed Forces, nor was he drafted.

That's why, he says, he's so honored for his role in designing and building a back nine at American Lake Veterans Golf Course that will be created with injured and recovering vets in mind.

On Friday, he was in Lakewood for a ceremonial groundbreaking. Actual work won't start on the future course until next year, but Friday was one of the few times organizers could bring Nicklaus to the Northwest during his busy schedule.
