Jermaine Kearse Shows Athletic Ability in Seahawks' Loss In Indianapolis

The Lakewood native caught a touchdown and blocked a punt against the Colts.

Despite Seattle's 34-28 loss in Indianapolis on Sunday, Seahawks fans got to witness, literally, the leaps Jermaine Kearse has made since coming into the league a year ago.

The Lakes High and University of Washington product caught a leaping, twisting 28-yard pass for a touchdown and blocked a Colts punt that resulted in a Seahawks safety.

Both plays showcased Kearse's athleticism, which is an asset when you have a quarterback like Russell Wilson who can run, scramble and make passes on the fly.

But the first of Kearse's two big plays came in the first quarter on special teams, when he lined up for an Indianapolis punt. At the snap, Kearse pinballed off a Colts' lineman and shot toward the punter, blocking the kick and sending the football into the end zone. Jeron Johnson slid and recovered the ball for what appeared to be a Seattle touchdown, but it was ruled that he didn't have control of the ball and the Seahawks got a safety.

Kearse's next big play came at the 7:35 mark of the second quarter, when Wilson dropped back in the pocket and fired the ball up the left sideline. He leapt with both arms outstretched to catch the ball and somehow kept both feet inbounds, touching the pylon for his second touchdown this season.

Kearse is now tied for the most touchdown catches on the Seahawks this season. His performance Sunday should help assure that he get chances to add to his total.

Question: Should the Seahawks find more opportunities to get Kearse the ball this season?
