Lakes Product Jermaine Kearse Seeing Increased Role With Seattle Seahawks

The former Lancer and University of Washington product has been taking snaps with the team's No. 1 offense in training camp.

Jermaine Kearse is making his case for more playing time in his second year with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Lakes High and University of Washington product caught only three passes last year, but he's already playing receiver with the first-team offense as the team prepares for its first preseason game Aug. 8 at San Diego.

According to Claire Farnsworth with Seahawks.com, "Kearse is making inroads as a receiver this camp, whether lined up in the slot or outside at either split end or flanker."

One of the main reasons Kearse is seeing more playing time while the team trains in Renton is because of injuries to Seattle receivers Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. The latter is considered one of the league's most explosive players but is expected to miss most of the regular season after undergoing hip surgery.

Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll says he likes Kearse's versatility and that the Lakewood native is a starter on the kickoff team.

According to the Seahawks.com story, Kearse credits his success, at least in part, to having laser eye surgery.

So what do you think, Patch users? Do you think Kearse will see more playing time than he did last year? Will he make an impact?
