Lakewood Boys Basketball Teams Honored for Championship Run

Members of the Clover Park and Lakes hoops squads were recognized at the Lakewood City Council meeting.

The Lakewood City Council, including Mayor Doug Richardson, recognized the Lakes and Clover Park boys basketball teams for winning a state championship in their respective classifications.

It was the first boys basketball state championship in both schools' history, and perhaps the first time a suburban community has won two state titles in the same year.

The Lancers won the 3A state title with a 71-56 victory over Bellevue, and the Warriors captured the 2A state title with a 69-54 win against Squalicum. Lakes head coach Jojo Rodriguez and Clover Park head coach Mel Ninnis took the podium and briefly spoke.
