Handcrafted Soap & Ceramic Workshop

Instructor Gina DeSantis will lead students in the art of hand building ceramic soap dishes from stoneware clay. Students will stamp and texture the dishes and pick out glaze colors that day. Meanwhile, instructor Melissa Klimo-Major will teach students how to handcraft a custom blended batch of natural, vegan soap. You”ll create your batch using an old fashioned, cold process recipe. No prior skills are needed for this class, and safety gear will be provided. Bringing an apron or old cover-up/tshirt is recommended.

We will begin this workshop pre-blending our soap oils and learning a bit about the process and benefits of natural soaps. After our oils regulate temperatures, you will have full creative reign to blend your soap, selecting from numerous essential oils, natural clays and colorants, and botanical additives.

Please note that both the dishes and soap from this workshop will be available 4-5 weeks after the workshop. Cold process soap requires a cure time while clay requires two firings in addition to drying time. You will complete your soap the day of the workshop and set it to cure. Gina will glaze the soap dishes for the students due to the one-day format of this workshop.

Students will be able to produce four dishes and four bars of soap.
