Perhaps sometime as you traveled Lakewood, you’ve noticed occasional litter or clutter in the right of way and thought to yourself, “I wish someone would pick that up."

Or maybe, “Who is ever going to clean-up this mess?"

Well no community has the resources to clean up every piece of trash or pull every weed. So the best response is to take action as a community, pick it up and pitch in to keep our roadsides and public spaces looking more beautiful, fresh and clean!

This year the civic group Keep Lakewood Beautiful is organizing the first annual Lakewood Community Clean-Up Day.  The event will be on Saturday, May 19, and registration is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. outside Lakewood City Hall.

After a couple hours of community clean-up work, participants can return to city hall for a free hot dog picnic as a "Thank You."

This event provides the perfect venue for those who want to join with other citizens to make a difference and take a direct approach to community beautification.  Individuals, families and groups from all over the city will be joining forces to clean up the trash and spruce up our right-of-ways.

Your family, you as an individual or as part of a business, community, school or neighborhood group simply need to come register at city hall that morning and then you decide for yourself where and exactly what your community clean-up project will be that day.  Keep Lakewood Beautiful can provide suggested locations and will also provide work supplies and a central litter disposal location for all the litter collected.

Keep Lakewood President, Malcolm Russell says,

“First and foremost, we want to encourage everyone, in Lakewood, registered or not, to get out on Saturday May 19 and pick up litter and trash wherever they find it that day.”

People that do register at City Hall that morning will also have access to free clean up supplies and a central dumpster for litter disposal. Once finished with your clean-up project, join all your fellow community-improvement warriors for a picnic and hotdogs starting at noon.

Various event activities and entertainment and will be provided. All registered groups and participants will receive a free hotdog coupon and a have the chance to win one of the nice gifts offered in the prize drawing.  It is a great way to celebrate your achievements and to honor those who are taking action to keep Lakewood a beautiful community in which to live and to work and to play.

NOTE: Event disposal is for litter only no large items, commercial or household waste will be accepted. You can learn more about it at: www.LetsKLB.org
