Finding a way to connect with the community has always been one of my passions. Currently I am a  teacher and yearbook adviser at Pioneer Middle School in DuPont. Before that I taught 8th grade Math and Science at Woodbrook Middle School in Lakewood. My connections with Clover Park School district still run deep, so I am excited to write about Lakewood schools but understand the issues that must be addressed.
I've lived and worked in the Lakewood/Tacoma area for over 15 years. Before that I grew up in the Bay Area in California, yes I know I'm a transplant. When moving to Washington in 1995 I opened my eyes to the great Western Washington outdoors. My love and appreciation for our parks and recreational areas here was instantaneously. Luckily I brought my Mt. bike and learned about our amazing seasons and thick blackberry bushes, I wear safety glasses now!  In addition to writing for the Patch,  I coach the Lady Pirates soccer team and coed track at Pioneer. I can not wait to get the team going this year. Last year we were 4-4-2. Hardly anything to write about but I'm proud of them after starting 0-3. Go Pirates! I have a Masters in Education and a Bachelors in Science from Cal State Sacramento. In addition I have an Administrative Credential to become a Principal, this still scares me to this day. My friends call me a happy-go-lucky person that finds humor in everyday situations and enjoys a good laugh. I agree with them. I absolutely LOVE to BBQ and my friends love my passion as well. Just ask them about my Ribs and Turds! Yes I said Turds! Others call them ABTs or Armadillo eggs they are to die for. Email me for the receipt if you want to really know what they are. Enjoy what we have when we have it, for we have no idea of what may come.
