Homeland Security Agent Shoots Suspect Who Hit Him With Car In Lakewood; Released From Hospital

The incident occurred around 8 p.m., Wednesday near the intersection of 108th Street and 47th Avenue Southwest.

A Homeland Security special agent shot a suspect who allegedly struck his leg with a car during a frantic exchange Wednesday night in Lakewood.

Authorities have yet to release information or the conditions of the suspect. The special agent was released from the hospital Thursday morning.

Federal and local agencies were involved: Lakewood Police Special Operations, Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcements and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m., during an investigation. Authorities stopped a vehicle driven by one of the suspects at 108th Street and 47th Avenue Southwest.

The driver, however, "failed to comply with commands,” according to Lakewood Police spokesman Chris Lawler.

The suspect tried to flee the scene in his vehicle and hit the Homeland Security agent in the leg. The agent fired his weapon and hit the suspect.  

Both were transported to area hospitals. As of Wednesday night, police have not released the the identity of the special agent, but he was released from the hospital.

Lakewood’s Major Crimes unit is investigating the shooting.
